General description
The updated SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP algorithms estimate an individual’s 10-year risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke) in apparently healthy people aged 40–89 years with risk factors that are untreated or have been stable for several years.
The SCORE2 algorithms do not apply to pregnant women, patients with documented cardiovascular disease (CVD) or other high-risk conditions such as diabetes mellitus, familial hypercholesterolaemia, chronic kidney disease or other genetic or rare lipid disorders or blood pressure disorders (such as primary hyperaldosteronism); these patients are to be considered at high or very high CVD risk.
The calculation is based on the new SCORE2 models published by the SCORE2/SCORE2-OP working groups. The treatment goals are based on 2021 ESC Guidelines on cardiovascular disease prevention in clinical practice.
Prevention of CVD in an individual should be adapted to his or her total cardiovascular risk: the higher the risk, the more intense the actions should be.
