Rezultatima međunarodnog indeksa simptoma prostate (I-PSS) procjenjuje se ozbiljnost simptoma benigne hiperplazije prostate na temelju odgovora na sedam pitanja o urinarnim simptomima i jednog pitanja kojim se ocjenjuje kvaliteta života. Svako pitanje koje se tiče urinarnih simptoma omogućava pacijentu da odabere jedan od šest odgovora koji ukazuje na sve veću ozbiljnost određenog simptoma. Odgovorima se dodjeljuju bodovi od 0 do 5. Ukupni rezultat može biti u rasponu od 0 do 35 (asimptomatski do vrlo simptomatski).
